Ward Whipple of Lombard, Illinois, was one of many readers to write in about our use of the headline “M.U.: The Best of Snobsite,” an allusion to Jethro Tull’s bafflingly named hits collection M.U.: The Best of Jethro Tull.

“‘M.U.’ supposedly stands for ‘Musician’s Union,’” Ward writes. “Not being a Tull-head, that still bugged me for several years until I found the answer, which I found somewhat anticlimactic.” Indeed. Couldn’t it have stood for something lascivious, or at least for some arcane scrap of Middle English faerie language?
